DISCOUNTED: South Dakota West River Archery, Muzzleloader or Rifle Whitetail and Turkey plus Pheasant Hunting to Boast About

South Central South Dakota boasts the densest population of wild pheasants in South Dakota and the surrounding states. The pheasant season runs from September 1st to March 31st. The outback is a working farm with corn, sorghum, millet, native prairie vegetation, heavy tree rows between fields, deep wooded creek bottoms and supplemental food plots providing choice habitat for pheasants, turkey and deer.

The key here is Deer. It is a sleeper state for large whitetail being over shadowed by its pheasant population. Now you can hunt Deer and pheasants and be less than a mile apart between hunting areas.

This is truly a “Blast from the Past!”

Rolling hills and canyons with thick wood lots make the perfect habitat for whitetail deer and Merriam turkeys. Whitetail deer are hunted from tree stands, ground blinds, or using spot and stalk in the wooded draws and the agricultural fields.  We hunt deer and pheasants in the fall and turkeys only in the spring.

The deer hunting is limited to two bucks per year, being two hunters. Drawing for the first season for a whitetail buck is quite easy but if you want the rut you will need to have a point going into the South Dakota drawing.

You'll enjoy the historic 5 bedroom country farm house with a full kitchen and two baths. An additional 3 bedroom house is available if needed.

As the owner my passion is providing world class pheasant, turkey, and deer hunting at a fair price. Many outfits charge a lot more but they cannot compete with our shooting and down home service. I promise if you select The Outback you'll be glad you did.

Oakley Eide

Outback History

Oakley has live on this farm all of his life with pheasants like South Dakota is famous for. He decided to share the wealth with others by providing west river whitetail deer hunts along with spring turkey, and 7 months of pheasant hunting. This also allows the hunter to purchase a pheasant license at 1/2 the price of other locations throughout South Dakota.

FACT: Gregory County has the highest pheasant population per mile of anywhere in the world.

Burke is located in the bottom left corner of the map.

It is south of I-90 and Mitchell, South Dakota.

THE OUTBACK is the greatest place on earth for the sportsman, hunter, and fisherman. Beginning with over 1000 acres of prime South Dakota Pheasant habitat in an area that hast the highest concentrations of pheasants in the state.

For the whitetail deer hunter we have additional acreage of corn, woodlot, tree lines and heavy cover to keep the bucks secure and on the property.

For the spring turkey hunters we have gobblers courting hens vigorously in drainage along the creek bottoms. These birds flock up in the winter to the tune of 300 birds. When spring comes these birds disperse and the gobbling begins!

If you’re a bass or crappie fisherman we have the largest privately owned lake in South Dakota.

If we don't have what you want, then check your pulse, you need more than a couple of days enjoying hunting and fish can provide!

Treestand, ground blinds, or just a good a place to stand or sit to watch the draws and travel corridors will fill your buck tag with a good whitetail in this fantastic deer and bird habitat.

Oh yes we also have the lodging to get you out of the weather when you do want to come indoors. This along with two meals a day will provide you with the time of your life.

You might have thought the Outback was in Australia, when in fact it is right here is Burke, South Dakota!
