Drop Camp Hunts
The drop camp hunt is for the hunter that enjoys the challenges of hunting on their own. We will pack you and your gear in by horseback. You are limited to 100 pounds of gear including food per person. We will provide all of the necessary camping equipment including stoves, lanterns, tents, wood stoves etc. The camp has two sleeping tents and one cook tent. This hunting area is a mix of open meadows, aspen groves and pine stands ranging in elevation from 8,000 to 11,000 feet. We will check on your camp at least twice during your 5 day hunt and bring out any game you may have down. We will take your animal to a meat processor or we can hang it in our cooler. You will be responsible for providing your own food, water filtration system, firewood cutting, cooking and clean-up. The camp is set up near a stream for your water supply. We require a minimum of 4 hunters per camp with a max of 6.
High Country Hunts
Our High Country hunt accesses prime Elk and mule deer habitat in the most scenic rocky mountain surroundings. For this hunt you will need to be in good physical condition. We use ATV’s to access private land and national forest at elevations above 11,000 feet.
From this high vantage point we glass the area for game and then plan a stalk. High quality optics are a must. The terrain is steep and above timberline with open meadows interspersed with dark timber and aspen groves. We hunt strategic locations that allow us to relocate and intercept moving game. Later seasons have the opportunity to hunt migration herds that move through our hunting area. The deer hunting in this area is as good as it gets. Timberline bucks grow big and have very little hunting pressure. Prepare for this hunt. Be in the best physical shape possible, and spend time at the range with your weapon. Be ready to shoot long distances and know your weapon’s capabilities. ATV’s are available for rental or you can bring your own. A fully furnished camp can also be provided.
The Lodge Hunt
For the hunter that prefers the all comforts of home. Hunters will stay at our lodge or guest house and have access to the surrounding San Juan National Forest. This area is accessible by foot, horse and 4 wheel drives. The area around our ranch holds great numbers of elk and mule deer all within walking distance. You could also drive to the top of the mountain and access thousands of acres of the Weminuche wilderness area or have our wranglers take you into the back country by horseback. At the end of the day, return to warm showers, hot meals and a soft bed. Food and cooking are not provided however, the lodge and the guest house both have full kitchens. Game packing and guides are not included in this hunt package.
