Val DeHerrera Jr. started guiding in 1978, as a teenager, he made his dream come true starting Val’s Trophy Hunts, LLC. VTH is into its’ second decade of providing the dedicated big game hunter with professional outfitting services on the famed Rio Costilla Park Cattle Ranch, of which Val is an owner and member. Located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of North Central New Mexico, 50 miles north of Taos New Mexico the ranch provides VTH clients the opportunity to hunt trophy Elk, Mule Deer, Big Horn Sheep,(draw hunts on unit #53 for Big Horn Sheep), Black bear, Mountain Lion and Bobcat. At elevations ranging from 7,000’ to 13,000’, with its breath taking views, diverse high mountain landscape one will not soon forget a true hunting experience with Val’s trophy Hunts.

One of the distinct advantages of hunting with VTH is that Val was born and raised in the area and resides there today. Val spends the off season on the ranch refining his knowledge of the ranch, the animals he hunts and collecting sheds, so each fall his clients have the chance to make their dreams of a trophy hunt a reality. Val’s passion for the outdoors and hunting are reflected in his son Joshua, who today represents a third generation of hunter dedicated to providing professional hunting experiences for VTH clients.
