Trophy Mule Deer
You've come to the right place for your next mule deer hunt!
Trophy Mule Deer hunts are conducted on prime properties in far west Texas known as the Trans Pecos and Big Bend regions. Our ranches vary greatly in size from several thousand acres to only a couple hundred which allows us to offer hunts in all price ranges to our clients. Several of our properties offer easy accesses off of main roads but more are off the beaten path in remote scenic regions of Texas. Mule deer season in west Texas starts the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs for 2 weeks long offering 3 weekends of hunting. Archery season typically is the entire month of October and runs to early November.
Typically we will do one group hunt per ranch, 1 different ranch per weekend of the season unless you are on a self-guided hunt you can hunt weekend or weekdays. This means that dates are specific to each individual ranch every year. Please contact me for the exact dates for 2012 hunt seasons. Mule deer are curious animals when not pressured allowing hunters to typically get within 200 yards of trophy quality bucks, terrain though will be a big factor so hunters need to be prepared to make a 350 yard shot on our mule deer hunts. Terrain varies from gently rolling hills, to steep canyons, and wide valleys, we also offer large cultivated fields to hunt over. Expect rocky terrain filled with plenty of cactus and desert plant life on most ranches.
A minimum of a .270 caliber rifle is highly recommended and a good pair of 10X binoculars. Most mule deer hunts will be over water, feed, or driving and glassing long distances then stalking closer to make the shot. A comfortable pair of boots and a day pack is recommended as we spend most of the day out in the field to cover as much ground as possible. Our guided mule
Deer hunts on all ranches combined averaged 90% success and self-guided hunts 70% success. Deer population and trophy quality vary from ranch to ranch and we have priced our hunts accordingly. Nonresident hunters will need to purchase the Type 105 General Non Resident Hunting license which is $315.00 over the counter, Resident hunters will need to purchase the Type 101 Resident Hunting license which is $25.00 over the counter.
Hunters are more than welcome to bring there bow out and we can set up a hunt in October over water and feed, muzzleloaders and pistol hunters are also welcome.

Trophy Aoudad
Hunting Big Rams is what we love to do!
Trophy Aoudad hunts are conducted in the rugged mountains of far west Texas where the best genetics for Big Rams are and originated in Texas. We also offer hunts on several ranches in Val Verde County in very limited numbers where there are also high Trophy Quality Ram genetics. We are very specific in the properties we choose to offer Aoudad hunts on and we strive for only the best so you the client can have a memorable hunting experience. Hunts are priced according to the size of the property, accommodations, trophy quality, and availability. Please keep in mind each property has produced rams upwards of 35" consistently each year.
Aoudad hunts to date have offered a 98% fair shot opportunity and 95% harvest success, self-guided hunts 85% harvest success. On your hunt we are after a Ram in the 30" plus trophy range and will give it our all too only harvest Trophy Rams of this caliber or close to it.
Most hunts will be 3 to 4 days and during the Aoudad Rut which is late September through early November you will most likely be sharing camp with another hunter or two. Group discounts are available and we welcome up to 4 hunters on any of our properties if there is availability. A solid penetrating bullet and flat shooting rifle (minimum of .270) is a must on these hunts and a good pair of binoculars in the 10X or 12X range.
If you have a spotting scope bring it along, we will be glassing out to past 1 mile to locate trophy rams on the move to put a stalk on one. Hunters must be in good physical shape for most properties although some properties are more forgiving such as the CDP and Comstock ranch. Please be prepared for shots upwards of 450 yards on these hunts and if you are afraid of heights please give me a call to recommend a property to you before booking. A good day pack to hold plenty of water and snacks is highly recommended along with medium to hard soled boots well broken in with good tread left. Shin guards are also a good idea for the "no see um" cactus.
We offer a strict amount of hunts each year on each property to keep pressure to an extreme minimum so I highly recommend you book far in advance to ensure a date that fits your schedule. We hunt our free range Trophy Aoudad from late September through early March. Expect earlier hunts to be on the warm side.
Nonresidents will need to purchase a Type 157 5 Day Special nonresident license which is $48.00 over the counter. Residents will need to purchase a Type 101 license which is $25.00 over the counter.
If you are brave enough to try an aoudad hunt with your bow I would recommend a hunt in Val Verde County or the 4D North for a hunt. We welcome you out to give it a try.
Aoudad hunting is very addicting!

Free Range Elk, Oryx, & Axis
We offer Free Range Trophy Elk- hunts in far west Texas right outside of Van Horn Texas with easy access off of the highway. These elk have migrated down from New Mexico and a few were also transplanted over 30 years ago in this area to try to reintroduce a strong herd for the west Texas region. Hunts will take place over a large cultivated fields, water tanks, and surrounding brush country where the elk feed and bed daily. Bulls range in all sizes and it is the hunter’s choice on what he or she would like to harvest with no size or point limits. Herds range in size from 5 to 25 animals. We will also offer a few cow elk hunts each year to regulate the herd population.
This is a great hunt for someone not wanting to travel out of state and still get a true free ranging elk hunt experience or for someone tired of not getting drawn for an out of state tag. Prices are much lower than others in the area and include very nice lodging. Very few hunts will be offered each year and we will pre book up to 2 years in advance. Hunts will be offered starting in August for a hunter wanting a nice bull in velvet and in September when they are hard horned. We can also conduct hunts during the winter months if available.
These elk will make excellent table fare with their diet being mainly alfalfa. Bow or rifle hunters welcome. Hunts will be conducted out of brush blinds or spot and stalk. These hunts are perfect for anyone in any physical condition due to the flat terrain and easy access to the fields. Shots in the 200 to 350 yard range will be expected and a minimum caliber of .270 is required with a .30 caliber rifle being highly recommended.
Elk are considered an exotic and all that is needed is a General License for Residents and a 5 Day special hunting for nonresidents, which is the same for axis and Oryx.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free Range Trophy Axis- hunts are available in the hill country part of the state and the ranch is located just south of Sonora Texas located directly off of the highway. Hunts will also be conducted over a large alfalfa field by either spot or stalk, or brush blinds. There is a very healthy population of Axis coming into the field every morning and evening with the average buck being 27" to 32" with a few that may go bigger. Limited hunts offered and they will be available year round for both bow or rifle hunters. Axis make great table fair as is and with their diet being mainly alfalfa there meat will taste excellent with little to no wild game taste. Minimum caliber of .243 is required and shots in the 150 to 200 yard range can be expected.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free Range Gemsbok Oryx- hunts will be offered on a standby type basis as the Oryx have just begun to migrate into the area. Hunters will be put on a call list and once we see a few Oryx on the property we will go down the list to see who is immediately available to come down and hunt. The hunts will be conducted in far west Texas so no draw is needed. There will be no guarantee on size or whether it is a bull or a cow but we will make sure it is a respectable trophy and not a juvenile animal. Minimum caliber of .270 is required with a good bonded bullet; shots upwards of 350 yards can be expected. We can also refer you to a large private ranch in New Mexico for a hunt where all that is required is a Private Lands Tag and the hunt fee.
Please inquire for references to these hunts.

Javalina hunts will be conducted in the Trans Pecos region of Texas and they are available on the majority of our properties. Javelina’s on average weigh 40 to 50lbs with larger trophy boars weighing upwards of 60lbs and they now are listed in the SCI record book. Both boar’s and sows sport sharp javelin type teeth which is where there name derived from.
Most are not a fan of eating the meat from a Javelina but with proper care and preparation the meat is actually quite tasty. They also make great European, Shoulder, and full body mounts. Hunters are allowed to take 2 Javelina per year and they are available to hunt year round.
They are in no shortage and come to feed and water regularly. Hunts will typically be 2 days guided or self-guided over feed and water or glassing the arroyos at dawn and dusk.
Javelina hunts are great hunts to introduce someone to the sport of hunting, something to do during the off season, or for a larger group wanting to get away for the weekend.
Shot opportunity to date is 100% on guided hunts and 90% on self-guided hunts.

Most quail hunts will be semi guided and hunters are welcome to bring their own dogs or quail rigs to hunt out of. We will bait roads prior to the hunt and drive roads looking for coveys of birds. Most coveys are 12 to 15 birds in size although last season multiple 20 bird covers were seen. Be sure to have your proper license and upland bird stamp prior to the hunt. We also offer limited released bird hunts for Bob White quail on the High lonesome ranch which is located under our Trophy Whitetail hunts. Individual Ranch information
Shelley Ranch
18,000 acres located 10 miles south of Van Horn Texas in Culberson County. This property is a working ranch with 3,000 acres of cultivated fields which include Alfalfa, Cotton, and Hay. There are multiple ponds, and water troughs located throughout the property and even a swimming hole with deck to jump off of. The additional 15,000 acres is flat land with heavy brush cover for game. Lodging on the ranch is a beautiful renovated historical southwestern style house that has 5 nice sized bedrooms, large living area, 2 dining areas, and game room totaling 4800 square feet. The lodge is also equipped with satellite TV in each room and a very large kitchen.
Terrain on the ranch is typically flat with several large dry creek beds and brush country similar to south Texas. There is a good road system on the ranch where a car can navigate almost the entire property making it easy for anyone to hunt the ranch. Mountains surround the ranch in all directions and offer wonderful views in the morning and evening hours. The ranch supports a very healthy population of Elk, Mule Deer, Javelina, and an excellent Quail population. Almost no hunting pressure exists on the ranch and a strict number of hunts will be offered each year.
Parties interested in Wildlife and Photography Tours or just a weekend get away with the family are more than welcome to contact me for a package set up. The house is available to rent per bedroom. There will also be a long range shooting set up in the near future. This ranch is perfect for a Corporate Group hunt.
Besides the cultivated fields there are multiple deer feeders located throughout the ranch that deer and Javelina come to regularly. Mule deer in the 150" to 170" range are a common site on this ranch and the deer density is good. Hunters will see anywhere from 10 up to 30 deer a day while hunting and upwards of 50 to 70 elk a day. Mule deer over 180" have been seen on the ranch and a deer of this caliber is a possibility. There is bull elk of all sizes that roam the ranch, an average elk is in the 280" to 300" range upwards of 350" plus being a possibility.
Elk and deer can be seen grazing in the fields or near one of the many water holes almost every evening, this ranch truly is a Honey Hole. The ranch is located less than 2 hours from El Paso and hunters can fly into El Paso and we can provide transportation for a small fee or meet us out at the ranch. It is very easy to get to.
Most hunts will be conducted 2x1 except for elk due to the large amount of area needing to be covered and typically when on a hunt hunters will get multiple shot opportunities while out in the field (Mule Deer, Javelina). Archery or bow hunters are welcome. Specific hunt dates are available for mule deer hunts each year.
Combined with an excellent food source(s), plenty of water, cover, and minimal hunting pressure this ranch is a hunters dream come true!
First hunt Conducted on 8-28-11

4D North/South Ranch
The original 4D (South) ranch is located in southern Presidio county and bordered by Big Bend State Park and the town of Redford, we now are offering hunts on its sister ranch the 4D North. Both of these ranches are nearly identical and offer excellent hunting for trophy Aoudad, Javelina, Quail, and Mule Deer.
This special property has been in the works for several years and we are now able to offer it to the public. The property is nearly identical to the original 4D South but larger, 13,500 free ranging acres. The 4D south is 6,000 acres. There is a decent road system throughout the ranch and we can accommodate all hunters regardless of their physical ability.
The 4D North offers a great population of Trophy Free ranging Aoudad, Javelina, Quail, a few hogs and some great Trophy Desert Mule Deer although the deer population is not high in density. The same goes for its sister ranch the 4D south. Hunters must be very patient while mule deer hunting on both properties!
There is modest simple lodging available onsite with all amenities except a TV and Telephone; it is very "rustic". The ranch is located half way between Van Horn Texas and Marfa Texas near the famous 96Ranch and Coal Mine Ranch about a 3 hour and 30 minute drive from El Paso International airport. Yes it is remote and secluded. Hunters can meet us in Van Horn, fly into El Paso and rent a vehicle, or we can provide transportation for a small fee.
Terrain varies from high desert hills, wide open valleys, vacant fields, and medium sized rough rugged vertical mountains with a lot of rim rock/cliff faces. Be ready for long distance glassing and some tough hikes. We can also hunt "safari" style, over feeders, and watch major trails for game. The ranch borders some of the most rugged and remote country in Old Mexico, there is no hunting allowed there meaning high chances of record book animals. Yes we are safe being this close to the border and as of today we have had no incidents.
We will only offer guided, semi guided, and self-guided hunts with assistance on this property to ensure strict game management and trophy quality. There are year round corn and protein feeders on the property.
An Aoudad Ram in the 29" to 33" range can typically be expected on your hunt and a Mule Deer Buck in the 150"-170" Range. We have regularly harvested rams over 35" on both the 4D North and South properties and have also seen 180" plus class mule deer later in the season so don’t rule a buck of that caliber out.
The 4D South is some of the most scenic terrain in west Texas and I highly recommend planning to stay an extra day after your trip to visit the state park and surrounding attractions.

Hueco/El Paso Ranch
This ranch is over 30 sections/square miles (640 acres per section) located 45 minutes east of El Paso in the Hueco mountain range. Hueco Tanks state park is located only a few miles away from base camp.
The ranch is 90% mountains, canyons, and deep draws that support a healthy Trophy Mule deer and Aoudad population. There are multiple 1000 foot plus cliff faces that the aoudads make their home on and elevations upwards of 6,000 feet. Javelinas occupy almost every arroyo on the property and there is also a decent quail population. We will offer limited hunts to the public and booking in advance is highly recommended.
The ranch has multiple year round water guzzlers, protein feed and corn feeding areas for wildlife such as Mule Deer, Aoudad, Javelina, and Quail which make their home on the ranch. There are also Gemsbok Oryx that migrate through the property on occasion.
There are many roads on the ranch which vary from excellent condition to some that are 2 track ranch roads and take time to travel. It will take 4 hours to travel the ranch from one end to the other without stopping. There is plenty of land to hunt with many drainages and small pockets to glass heavily.
Trophy mule deer in the 170" to 190" plus range are seen regularly on the ranch and a 200" deer is a possibility. We are surrounded by strictly managed properties and we will only offer 4 mule deer and 3 aoudad hunts per year. Aoudad rams over 35" have been harvested and there is a fair population located on the ranch. Trophy quality for big rams is high. Hunters can expect a ram in the 30" to 35" plus range.
Onsite simple lodging will be provided on most hunts or hotel lodging located nearby. Hunters will fly into El Paso international and we can pick you up or meet us nearby the ranch and follow us to camp. This whole area is surrounded by large ranches and minimal pressure, it is getting harder and harder to find mule deer of this caliber in Texas but this little honey hole still has some great trophy deer and in high numbers.
Hunts will typically be 2x1 Guided for Deer and 1x1 for Aoudad. Hunters will see anywhere from 15 to 30 mule deer a day on average and hunts will be over feed and water and spot and stalk.
1 Group Hunt toward the end of season is all that will be conducted which is closest to the rut each year. Single hunters will be paired up t0 make the hunt possible and the dates will be specific each season. 1x1 Hunts for mule deer can be arranged for an additional fee and available on a very limited basis. Archery hunts can also be arranged and management bucks may also be available on a limited basis.
You will not be disappointed if you book a hunt on this ranch, it is very scenic and offers plenty to keep you busy during your stay.

CDP Ranch
The CDP ranch is located in southern Brewster County inside the well-known Trilingual ranch. This is one of the most remote areas in Texas so come prepared. The terrain is very rocky with a large amount of cactus. The ranch borders Big Bend national park. There are many high desert hills, big canyons, and a large cliff face that runs for several miles on the ranch. Wildlife varies from a healthy population of Mule Deer, fair numbers of Aoudad, and great Javelina, Quail, Predators, and some have even seen Bull Elk. There are several year round feeders and water troughs located on the ranch and several springs right outside ranch boundaries.
The ranch is small and split up into 3 different hunt areas although they are all located in prime hunt locations. The actual CDP ranch is 160 acres, our guided aoudad and Javelina hunters will have access to an additional 2,000+ acres that borders the CDP ranch. There is a very good road system though out the area and the roads are maintained for the most part. Shots upwards of 300 to 350 yards can be expected on most hunts. Self-guided hunters will have access to the primitive camp site located on the ranch.
Bring all of your camping supplies and a bit of wood. Guided hunters will have access to a clean comfortable 5th wheel camper/hunters camp located nearby. Lodging is available at the Longhorn Motel roughly 45 minutes away. Hunters can fly into El Paso rent a vehicle (5 hours to ranch), Midland or even Del Rio (3.5hrs) and take the scenic route to the ranch. Airport pick up in El Paso is available. A high clearance 2 wheel drive with good tires will navigate the ranch but a 4 wheel drive is highly recommended.
We will offer guided and self-guided hunts on this ranch. We prefer a minimum of 2 hunters on self-guided hunts due to the remoteness of this ranch. Most hunts will be done safari style with a bit of spot and stalk or over the year round feeders located in prime areas on the property.
A respectable ram in the 26" to 30" range can be expected although larger have been seen. Hunters are advised not to hold out for a big ram if a respectable ram presents a shot due to the very rough terrain and ability to retrieve your trophy in some locations. There is a huntable population of aoudad on the ranch and in this area.
A mule deer buck in the 120" to 150" range can be expected. They are not big monster bucks but are very affordably priced and are very economical hunts offering high success. Javelina and blue quail are located in high numbers throughout the ranch. There are multiple quail watering and feed stations located on the ranch.

Val Verde County Aoudad Hunts
Located just south of Ozona or Sonora Texas Val Verde County Texas is known for big Trophy Aoudad just as Presidio County. Val Verde County also offers great Trophy Whitetail, Turkey, and exotic hunting. We have several properties in this county we offer hunts on all varying in size (4,000 to 10,000 acres) and location but all have similar trophy quality levels. Several ranches protein feed and hunts can be conducted over feeders, safari style, or hiking glassing and stalking in close enough for a shot.
Lodging varies from a simple house with all amenities including WiFi and Satellite TV to cabin style lodging with basic amenities. Most properties will be available to hunt from mid-September through early March each year although some ranches offer year round opportunities and can accommodate larger groups. We will put you on the best available ranch according to what are scouting has recently been showing and past success and trophy quality numbers.
We also rotate properties to keep pressure to a minimum so please understand that the same ranches will not always be available and we are always acquiring new properties to offer excellent hunting opportunities to our clients. Pricing for each ranch will remain almost the same but may vary slightly according to accommodations, location, and numbers. Most hunts will be group style hunts with 2 to 5 hunters in camp. This means dates will be specific each year unless you have a small group established to book.
Number of available hunts will be minimal to each ranch meaning only a couple hunts each year will be offered per property. We also do not hunt during the general rifle whitetail season to not disturb the deer patterns. All properties are free range/low fence. Terrain varies from rocky steep hill sides going up several hundred feet in elevation with flat mesas to thick brushy draws offering cover for game. Several properties have less brush making it easier to glass yet harder to stalk.
All in all this is a great county to hunt aoudad in. Please contact me for current available ranches and dates available in the area. Single hunters or groups are welcome. Bow or rifle hunters are also welcome of all skill levels. We can also video your hunt for a small fee on certain occasions.
Hunters can fly into Del Rio and rent a vehicle or you can meet us near the ranch. From Del Rio you can expect anywhere from a 1 hour to 1.5 hour drive to the ranch. Airport pick up is available for a small fee.
**Currently we have 2 Properties available to hunt in this county, 1 Ranch is booked for 2011 and spring 2012, the other is open for early 2012**

Guided Mule Deer
Van Horn/Barrow Ranch
Located 1 hour south west of Van Horn Texas in northern Presidio county this ranch has it all. High desert hills, larger arroyos, small chalk mountains, and even Rio Grande river frontage. There are multiple natural springs located throughout the ranch drawing in and holding wildlife. The main ranch is 15,000 acres where both self-guided and guided hunters will be hunting; guided hunters will have additional access to another 15,000 acres bordering the ranch to the south. On a Texas map you can look at Valentine Texas and draw a line straight west until you hit the Rio Grande, this is roughly the center of the ranch. Rams upwards of 33" and mule deer in the 170" class have been regularly harvested on this property. A few hogs inhabit the river area and offer a challenging hunt. There is also some great cat fishing in the river nearby to camp and who knows you may even see an Elk or Oryx passing through.
The west side of the ranch contains a decent road system although a high clearance vehicle with good tires is a must, 4x4 is highly recommended with a jeep being best to get into the most remote areas. The east side of the ranch is primitive with the only roads being 2 tracks up washes/drainages and steeper hills. A good pair of walking boots, a jeep, or even a horse is your best means of transportation. Self-guided hunters are encouraged to bring a chainsaw to cut down some wood for the firepit. Hunters can fly into El Paso and rent a vehicle, meet us in Van Horn, or airport pick up is available for a small fee. The ranch is an easy 3 hour drive from El Paso international airport.
