About Us
Severe Taxidermy is a Utah taxidermy business currently doing business in Smithfield, UT; near Logan, UT, in beautiful Cache Valley. Here's how it all started out....
Since Mike Severe was a young boy he's been really interested in hunting and fishing. Mike's father took him with along on several hunting and fishing trips. These trips and constant exposure to wildlife were major contributors to Mike wanting to be a taxidermist. After trying to tan his own hides for a period of time and experimented with a variety of taxidermy related projects, Mike decided he would have a better knowledge and stronger edge over his competitors by going to a taxidermy school. Mike discovered if he was to become a "great" taxidermist he needed to and learn from a great taxidermist.
Mike attended the Advanced Taxidermy Training Center in Northwestern Montana in the spring of 2008. While at school he spent six weeks learning how to apply competition techniques and details on mammals, birds, and fish. Upon completion of his taxidermy school Mike was so impressed to see how much of a difference the details made in the final product of his mounts, especially when comparing to his competition. From personal observance of other taxidermists, the difference between a good mount and a bad one is like night and day. You just need to know what to look for :) Sometimes you don't even need that!
Good, quality taxidermy takes time and most people and taxidermists aren't willing to give this time to the mount. The majority of people have the mentality that the mount should be done within a month or two. From a hunter's perspective it is very easy to think, i just want it stuffed and back, it can't be that hard. However, tanneries may take up to 5 or 6 months to tan and return a hide.
You can rest assured knowing that your mount will not stay on the shelf for years but will be finished in a timely manner and with the details that it deserves. "Detail is Our Mark" for a reason. Having hunting for a big portion of his life, Mike Severe knows and understands the "hunter's perspective" when it comes to taxidermy. Trust him and he'll do all he can to ensure you're happy for years to come.
