Upland Game

Imagine a clear, crisp morning with a gentle breeze moving the wild grass to and fro. The sun is just breaking over the horizon and in the distance a huge flight of geese is rising from a neighboring rice field. Your guide gives an educated call and the geese turn your way. Some say it's the thrill of a lifetime, others say it's just another day in the life of Cajun Wildlife Adventures.

Save your money. Their website promises that you will be transported within a few feet of a comfortable blind where the decoys are already set up with a well-trained receiver by your side. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our guide was late so he had us help put out the decoys he did bring, but we were still not set up and ready to hunt by legal shooting time. He also thought it was a good idea to combine our party of 4 with another guide’s 4 hunters. You would think this would mean 8 hunters, but you forgot to count the guides, which were more interested in hunting than guiding us. So much so that they put 6 of us in a blind made for 4 at best and hunted by themselves out of layout blinds. The blind was so cramped no one could swing their gun or even sit down comfortably, which resulted in the birds being able to see us and flaring. The few shots we did take resulted in no one knowing who hit the bird with 10 guns shooting at once. Only one guide had a dog, which he couldn’t even make stay in his kennel while waiting for the birds. The worst part was that there were thousands of geese, and if we had a competent guide and just our party, we could have had a great hunt. Instead, they collected $1,350 for one blind that didn’t have a chance of a good hunt. We asked to hunt a separate blind and the guide refused. They offered us more hunting days next week, knowing that when you drive 12 hours and have to return to work you can’t use more hunting days. Plus, who would want to hunt with them again. Worst guide service I have encountered hunting or fishing over 20 years.
