Wyoming Elk Hunting & Trophy

Wyoming Elk Hunts

Our hunt areas are well known for the trophy heads that they have consistently produced over the years along with the abundant number of elk. With a resident herd of Elk we do not depend on the snowfall or a migration to have good elk to hunt. The elk are there all year round with the main feed ground not far away. Our upper camp is set high up off Wolf Mountain where the deer and elk really do roam. We have more information on our Wyoming Elk Hunting camps.

The Elk population in Western Wyoming is extremely healthy and our hunt area is no exception. With a resident herd the weather is not an issue with our camps. The success rate for our camps over the years is 80% with several trophy mounts taken each year. Send us an inquiry now about Wyoming Elk Hunting.

If you like to archery hunt, our Camps offer some great areas for the season's BIG BULLS. We also schedule combination Archery/Rifle hunts for both Deer and Elk. These are 7 or 10 day hunts, where you begin archery hunting on the last 4 days of the archery season and if unsuccessful then switch to rifle to finish your hunt. These combination hunts are best from the High Camp.

For more information, see our Wyoming Elk Hunting Rates.

Wyoming Mule Deer Hunting & Wyoming Mule Deer Hunts

Western Wyoming's Mule Deer herd is the best it has been in several years and expected to continue to do well. Mule deer may be hunted from our high camp or town.

From our camps we have access to some areas that have traditionally produced some great trophy heads year after year. Wyoming Mule Deer hunting can be combined with elk, antelope or moose hunts to make a truly great all around trip. If you have questions, please send us an inquiry now.

Town hunts are excellent because we have the option to hunt a great deal of different territory. We can trailer to different hunting areas each day. Town hunts are great for Deer and Elk when the snow is deep and we cannot hunt from our high camp. Plus you can enjoy getting back to the comforts of home each night.

We offer 7 day hunts for Deer, ( if other arrangements need to be met we will try our best to accommodate). For more information, see our Wyoming Deer Hunting Rates.

Wyoming Specialty Hunts - Bear, Goats, Sheep & Moose

Black Bear - For bear hunts, we do individual bear hunts. You can buy over the counter. We see several bears each season, and you may see one while you’re out on a deer or elk hunt. We also do our spring bear hunts. We bait the bears in the Spring, as they're coming out in the spring. We hunt off of the baits. We hunt black bears, in between 5-7 feet. Try to kill mostly big boars. We're 100% on Spring bears. Several spring bears every year. For Fall hunts, wait till you get here before you buy a tag to make sure the quota's not filled.

Moose - If you are lucky enough to draw a Moose tag the chances of getting a trophy are excellent. We have a great moose herd in the dog creek area. Our moose hunts have been 100%. The moose are here.

Big Horn Sheep - Our two select areas for Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep are unique, because one of them is the only area in the state where any Sheep is legal. These are some of the toughest hunts there are. The sheep are there. We can take you part way on horseback; the rest of the way is climbing.

Mountain Goats - We have one of the exclusive mountain goat hunting areas in the state, even in the country. Mountain goats are plentiful in this area with a 100% success rate on goats. It is once-in a lifetime tag, if you can draw one. There are only two areas in the state for goats. Our area #2 that we harvest range from 7-10 years olds which provide quality animals. We try to take 9.1/2 to 10 1/2 inch goats. We run a 5 day goat hunt. Our mountain goat hunts are fairly hard you have to walk quite a bit. Mountain goats spend their time in the high cliff areas. They can be a fairly grueling hunt as far as hiking and walking.

Mountain Lion - We do our winter mountain lion hunts. Those start in mid-December through usually March. Those are town based hunts. We ride snowmobiles and use dogs to track the mountain lions. Our hunts are dependent on the weather. We have to be able to find the tracks to chase the lions. We'll tree as many lions as we can find tracks. There are plenty of mountain lions to kill in the area. Mountain lion tags are over the counter. It's on a quota, for example 15 lions. As soon as they kill 15 lions the quota is over, but as many males are okay. Because our mountain lion hunts are based on weather, it's best to be able to be on call. Another way is to come snowmobiling and if we have some weather get a tag.

Plains Buffalo Hunts - We do run plains buffalo hunts based out of Jackson Hole, just north of Jackson on the Teton National Forest. They issue a number and when they call you, you have to come.

About

We are permitted to operate in Bridger-Teton National Forest and offer a variety of Elk and Deer hunts and hunting options. We are not just outfitters but hunters who love the outdoors and want to offer GREAT hunting at affordable prices to those that want to experience the wonderful Wyoming area. Bud and his dad started Big Game outfitting in the Star Valley/Jackson Hole/Teton areas in the early 1950's and bring 60 years of hunting experience to the operation.

We are very fortunate to have exceptional Elk quality and the longest season to hunt them. If you hunt with us you will see that we are one of the few places in the United States where you can hunt elk with a rifle right in the midst of their rutting season. We are also fortunate to have a resident heard of Elk to hunt due our geographic location near two of Wyoming's largest feed grounds. We offer 7 and 10 day hunts for Deer and Elk. We also schedule combination Archery/Rifle hunts for both Deer and Elk. These are 7 or 10 day hunts, where you begin archery hunting on the last 4 days of the archery season and if unsuccessful then with the opening of the regular season a rifle is allowed. These combination hunts are best from the High Camp.

 Pack-In High Camp

If you want to hunt the high country, our upper camp is just the place. It is accessible on horseback only, a ten-mile horse ride in and magnificent hunting from there. We offer 7 and 10 day hunts for Deer and Elk. This is also a great camp if you are lucky enough to draw a tag for a Mountain Goat (Area 2) or Big Horn Sheep (Areas 6 & 7) You can also add a Bear tag (Purchase over the counter after you get here) while you hunt Deer or Elk. Due to the rugged terrain, hunters going to this camp should have basic riding skills and be in good physical condition.

Main Camp

Our base camp is accessible with 4WD trucks, yet it is in great country with plenty of game. From this camp we can accommodate both the hunter that wants to hunt the high rough stuff as well as the hunter that prefers a more relaxed hunt. There is plenty of good game for both due to our location to the elk feed grounds and the Snake River hunting range. This camp provides great access for hunting Moose in Area 20.

Both of these camps offer comfortable tent living with wood stoves, cots to sleep on and good home cooked meals along with a great atmosphere to enjoy the Wyoming Mountains during the best time of the year. You can expect to hear the bugling of bull elk during the late part of September as the elk are in heavy rut during this time. It's a great way to catch up to some of the trophy bucks that hang around the elk herd during the rut.

Town Hunts

If you are interested in some excellent hunting and still be able to have the comforts of home, we offer hunts based from our home town of Afton WY as well as from Jackson Hole. These are excellent hunts because we have the option to hunt a great deal of different territory due to the fact we can trailer to different hunting areas each day and are great for Deer and Elk when the snow is deep and we cannot hunt from our high camp. Over the years these hunts have proven to be very productive especially for Antelope in the Kemmerer District of South Western Wyoming. Our areas (93 and 100) for Antelope have produced B & C heads consistently. On the town based hunts you are responsible for lodging and meals. We provide the trucks, trailers, horses, tack and guides. We have good working arrangements with various lodges in both Jackson and Afton at affordable rates.

We pride ourselves in giving a value added hunting experience. We will try to match a hunt with your skill level and your schedule.
