This outfitter has about 50,000 acres with about 2000 buffalo roaming on the prairie on the ranch located in central South Dakota near Lake Oahe, about 35 miles from Pierre, South Dakota.

This is natural grassland that has never been broken. The prairie is virtually as it was two hundred years ago when Lewis and Clark traveled this way on their trip west. There is a piece of history here to uncover while you hunt the vast hunting area that is seldom hunted. You can go on your own as a DIY or a semi-guided hunt from the landowner and ranch hands. The mule deer are spot and stalk the pockets and the whitetail are in the river bottoms. No problem with too many hunters here, in 50,000 acres there are definitely more deer than people. Many years this ranch is not hunted and has over aged bucks to show it. This is a good place to make it a standard hunt each year for your friends and family to hunt as a annual trip.

You will be hunting in Stanley County for Mule deer or whitetail deer.  We have both mule deer and whitetail, at about a 70%-30% with Mule Deer prominent.

Observers are welcome at no extra cost this is a family operation. A guide is provided with each group that comes together, whether it be one person or 3-4 in the guides truck.  This family operation likes to keep friends with friends it is a down home way to do things.

If you want to bring an ATV for a deer hunt that is okay.  We can skin your deer if you wish.  We always skin and cape the buffalo, so taking one home with your deer is always an option, in comparison to deer it is more meat and less antler.

The buffalo are a closed herd so they are the best of the best. The herd bulls often will weigh 1800-2000 pounds. We sort the buffalo every year and only keep the very best size and quality animals. We have a very strict culling program to insure the quality or our animals.

Sometimes our high quality guarantee management on the buffalo has us culling while you are up hunting. We can also save a cull for you if the timing is right.

We are about 31 miles from Pierre where most of the motels are located.  Most will give a hunters discount if you tell them you are hunting.  There are meat processors in Pierre and Oneida that will process the game.  Buffalo processing is about $.65 cents per pound and deer is probably twice that but a deer is a lot lighter than a buffalo.

License requirements for our hunts,  licenses usually come with two tags.

PREADITOR, PRARIE DOG PHEASANT AND GROUSE

The predator hunts we offer are for coyotes and other such animals. There are two ways to hunt. One is by calling them in. We provide the guide and the caller. The other is by using dogs and would include dogs and the guide. The cost is $500 per day.

There are several prairie dog towns on the ranch. Some are several acres (very large) while others are small. But plenty of hunting is available. Hunters can spend the whole day on one town or go to several towns. The cost is $250.00 per day for two guns/ people.

Predator and prairie dog require a predator/varmint license or non-resident license.

Pheasant and grouse require a small game license. This is the same season as buffalo.

BUFFALO

No license is required.

The season is from Oct to Jan

Combo Hunts are middle of the road for the hunter. This hunt is for a 2 1/2 -3 year old bull that will make a nice mount. These are some of the best eating buffalo and nicest hides around. We will cape and skin the animal and quarter to meat for you. If you want the meat cut and wrapped, we need to know this prior to your arrival, so arrangements can be made for it to be processed in Pierre or Oneida, South Dakota.

The hunter gets the whole animal with this hunt. The cost is $2750. The season is Oct.- Jan.1. We require a $1375 (50%) deposit to hold a date. These hunts can be archery also.

Meat Processing is up to the hunter. We recommend Broc's Butcher Block in Oneida, or Steamboat Inc in Pierre. It is the hunter’s responsibility to get their meat to Pierre or Oneida. If the ranch has to transport the meat the cost is $100.

Here again the hunter is welcome to take his meat with him. We will quarter the carcass and bag it for him. They are welcome to bone out the animal at the ranch, but this is also up to the hunter.

The nearest airport is Pierre, about 35 miles away.  They have rent-a-cars there also.  It is serviced by Great Lakes which is a United Airlines carrier from Denver and Rapid City, and also by a Delta carrier from Minneapolis.   Many fly into Rapid City and drive as well, rent a car and drive the 175-200 mile trip to the ranch.
