Guided and Do it yourself (DIY) hunting at its best is waiting for you back where the other hunter will never get. If you have hunted elk before this hunt is for you. This is a DIY 3-5 miles back into elk country with an elevation increase of 2,000 feet in the White River National Forest. This is one of the prime elk habitats in the state; the difficulty is getting away from the easy access walk in hunters. You will be back far enough and high enough you will most likely only see your camp buddies.

You have up to a maximum of 150 pounds for your pack horse and you will ride a separate saddle horse.

After paying your deposit the outfitter will contact you and provide a list of essential items that you will need to pack in with you.

You will have a scabbard to take your rifle in with you. They are used to bring you and your gear back into your camping area. You must bring your own tent, cooking supplies and so forth for your stay. There will be nothing at your camp site when you get there and the same when you leave.

The guide will check on you every other day and will pack out any elk you have taken, pack it to the ranch and even take it to a meat processor if you wish. You will have 2 way radios that at 8pm every night you will be called to see if you need anything.

If you do want a horse in camp they can be contracted from another stable for $ 500. There are deer in the area and you will probably see some during the course of the hunt. It is not recommended that you buy a license and hunt deer in this area because they are few and far between. Lower altitude and different habitat is much better for Mule deer.

SET UP CAMP is the same as the drop camp but we provide the camp equipment and set it up for your use.

For those of you that would rather hunt on your own, we offer this pack in service where you will find camp already set up for you. We provide roomy carpeted wall tents, cooking utensils, cots with pads, lanterns and fuel, gas cooking stoves, wood burning heating stoves, tables, a latrine, complete packing of your gear, riding horses for your pack in and pack out. Camp checks and game packing too.
