.. Hunt ID:5094-CO-S-C-2000-003-ElkMDeerAntelope-AI2GCR-R1N-LV2INME-Great Semi-guided Colorado Quick Picks Watchdog Lives here © Copyright Discounted Hunting Adventures llc. Welcome to where the hills meet the plains, where antelope are everywhere, even during antelope season. Where the mule Deer can disappear from the hot sun but return in droves and the elk come to visit just in time for hunting season. Our hunts are Semi-guided on 3,500 acres of mostly private land hunts with landlocked BLM and we provide lodging. Arrive at least 1 day early so we can show you the property, fences and game. The 2nd and 3rd season are 4 days 1st half and 4 day second half to cover the 9 day season. All other seasons are 5 days. We have a limited number of hunters for every season. Because of the ground our hunts are minimal impact unless you want to make it otherwise. You will know how many other hunters there will be, and you will be expected to cooperate and respect other hunters, as they will with you. If a hunter has a tag that permits private and public land hunting, he has 4,000 to 5,000 contiguous acres to hunt! A Low Impact Semi-guided hunts on mostly Private Land limited Lodging. In many cases the public ground is between two different ranches or encompassed by a ranch.

Bull Elk $ 3295 Discounted Down to only……………………………………………………………….. $ 2395 Cow Elk $ 2100 Discounted Down to only…………………………………………………………….… $ 1595 (Note: there is an additional discount for $100 on all elk hunts except for the 4th season)

Mule Deer Buck $ 3500 Discounted Down to only………………………………………….………. $ 1995 Buck Antelope $2200 Discounted Down to only…………………………………………….………. $ 1395

A Cow elk as a 2nd animal is $ 2195 Discounted Down to only………………………………….$ 1095 A Mule Deer Buck $ 3500 Discounted Down to only…..………………………………….………. $ 1095

Special Cow only Hunt season is $2200 Discounted down to only………………………….. $ 1495 This hunt usually the last 3 days of November Colorado like the other states where you must first book your hunt first the apply in the license to hunt. If you don’t draw we have Watchdog® to assist you getting a license for the hunt.

This is the best reduced price for a combination hunt in the country. As a rule, the later the season the higher the population of Animals on the ranches. The 4th season is an elk only season so for a combination hunt it would be a Bull Elk and a Cow Elk $ 5200 discounted down to only……………………..$ 3295

For the 2nd season the deer licenses are easier to draw with 0-1 point and A Great time to hunt deer but if the weather is warm many times it will slow the migration providing only cows or very few bulls. For this if you want a combination hunt I recommend a Buck Deer and a Cow elk is $4500 Discounted down to only…………………………………………………………….……………. $2995

For 3rd season the combo can be a Bull elk, with a deer or a cow elk because the migration weather is much more dependable, but the worse the weather the better the hunt. This package is defined above.

The Prices for a second animal as a Cow with a bull, or two cows, a doe Mule deer with the buck, and the doe antelope and even 2 doe antelope will be available. Drawing the licenses for them may be an even bigger task. Our goal is to strive to have our hunters enjoy a safe and successful experience. Keep in mind our ranches are in Units GMU004 and GMU301, and in most cases the license is good for both units for elk. GMU003 is always tied in with GMU301. In all our hunts our goal is to do everything possible to make you successful. Mule Deer Our Success rate for mule deer is over 90%, and the ones that didn’t fill wanted something over 30 inches wide and they don’t show until after Thanksgiving and drawing a 4th season deer license requires 12+ points, and as far as a voucher I have never seen one but if you did, I would suspect you would have to give up your first born. For the 2nd season it usually takes 1+ point with the 3rd taking 5+ points. The 4th is around 12 points. Our best deer season is the latest you can get as 4th season, with 3rd more reasonable to draw, and still excellent, and 2nd season we have a lot of local deer that have some impressive racks for the wall. Both 2nd and 3rd season are the deer seasons we hunt the most. The second season at the end of. The 3rd season requires 5 preference points to draw. They are both a 100% success as far as deer harvest, but drawing is the difficulty. There are usually some vouchers available for deer at approximately $ 1000-$1500 but it is never guaranteed that they will be available, because the landowners must draw them like the hunters must draw licenses, they require the landowner to have points as well. Big reminder is that you must apply for a deer and the other licenses in March. This includes if you only want to build your preference points. The points alone Were $40 but this year the points are free if you already have or buy a small game license. If you hunted or fishes Colorado with a valid license the previous year the preference point is free you just need to apply for it. Here is the Skinny on the deer hunting The ranches are a combination of sage, pasture, deep draws with trees and old building in them and canyons. The deer can be anywhere in those areas. We have had archers and muzzleloader hunters do well in the seasons but check the points on drawing theses licenses it takes points. By the second season we are beginning to receive the mule deer migrating in from Bears Ear Mountain and the mountains around it and east. Many will winter here because of our water, our lightly grazed 3,500 acres and lack of people pressure.

Antelope As for antelope, we run more than 90% success the ones not filling is looking for the magic 82” Boone and Crockett score before shooting. This area has many in the record book, but with antelope it is even more difficult to get in the record book because the number of bucks lie that in the whole state or nation that make that score are very minimal and the minimal number of license available is against you.

Here is the Skinny on the deer hunting We have many, many antelope, and high number is what it takes to have record class. We also have the gene pool for record class antelope, that is why some hold out to the end of the 3-day hunt. I will say in our GMU003 and GMU301 that we are in has had many, many antelope put in the books, it is just not every year. We have some big antelope every year but in all honest there are very few hunters that can accurately measure a Pronghorn Antelope accurately after 75 inchers when the antelope is still standing. it is usually 1 point for a buck and 0 Points for a doe. These number change slightly as the animal population increases and decreases and the same with the number of hunters applying for the licenses. In the west water is King. On our property, we have many water sources and the wildlife knows where a spring and cattle tank is located. As a rule, antelope for instance will always stay within a ½ mile of their water source. If you have the water you have deer and antelope in this fertile wildlife Oasis. There is a lot of country north west of Craig with no water after the spring and early summer catch basin water collecting dams evaporate. At that time, the antelope migrate SE to where they will always find water. By that time of year, the young antelope are well ready to walk the distance. Just prior to antelope season we receive those migrators in with our locals and our fields and pastures are filled with antelope.

Elk The second and third seasons are over the counter bulls. The first season we have elk because we have water, but they are smart locals and we would rather use out time on in coming migrants. The 4th season is a great season you just can’t hunt deer at the same time unless you get a 4th season deer license. Cow elk licenses are usually available during the draw and usually leftovers. Are available after the sale day in August for the next few days.

Here is the Skinny on the elk hunting Elk hunting is a story completely different from deer and elk. The herd of 60,000 migrating west onto the sagebrush as far as Godiva Rim come through our properties. In fact, we are in a Major migration corridor. The elk are attracted during the early season but in truth most elk will stay on the mountain until the snow pushes them out. There urgency is triggered by the snow depth and temperatures, so the worse the weather the better the elk bunting. Our properties are miles long and miles wide in specific areas with multiple highlight that attract elk, like geese migrate every year. The significant difference with elk they don’t migrate by the moon like the deer do they migrate by the snow depth and weather. Once they drop into the sage and pasture, they may keep migrating but then again, the may bed and eat while enjoying the area. An elk number 1 goal is to be safe and if they don’t get pushed by hunters they stay where the water and the grass is the best. On opening day, the whole valley is pushing elk every way, you may push some off the property and other may push them back on. There is one thing that running elk need when they are traveling hard is water and remember we have it. Son the movement will move more elk in that you can move out. They know they have about 20 miles east is Godiva’s Rim and if needed they could do that in 2 days, why rush enjoy the weather and the habitat of the ground along the way. This is one reason we graze our property so lightly. There is plenty for the elk with top and bottom mouth teeth, left from the cattle with only bottom teeth which must graze the grass high when they are eating. In addition, the reason this Craig Valley has become so popular for the elk is the CRP program of 20 years ago. A little history is that ranchers with miles and miles of flat sage land tried growing winter wheat, but the area moisture fell at the wrong time to have a very successful wheat crop. They were forced to have the wheat seed 12 inches apart for the dryland wheat to grow and have a reasonable head of grain. This was a poor profit level when you had to combine so much ground for a bushel of wheat. When the agricultural CRP Program came in and offered them to get paid each year and not even own a tractor these ranchers could turn back into ranchers which is where their roots were anyway. If they would plan a mixture of broom grass, ranger alfalfa, and some other hearty grasses and not cut or feed it, just let it be the County Artcurial Department would just send them a check for a prearranged amount of money related to their acreage for 10 years then renegotiate the contract. This was well received by the ranchers and even better received by the elk. They could drop into the Craig valley and even spend the winter and not migrate to the Godiva Rim or south to the Yampa river bottom. Currently there are 20,000+ elk that live in the Craig Valley year around. The migrating elk increase the valley population by about 50,000 each year after the migration which is weather dependent but begins in mid-October and goes through the end of December weather dependent.

Lodging We have one trailer home on one of the 5 properties that span the migration route. Sometimes we separate the properties and at other time we group some together to provide the best success rate a match the group sizes. The main ranch in unit 4 has a three-bedroom mobile home with a complete kitchen, and two full baths with hot water. Next to it is a schoolhouse as a 2nd se that is set up for sleeping. While it doesn't have a bathroom, it is warm and comfortable with a wood stove and electric heaters. There are also camp sites available. The Ranch in unit 301 has a primitive mobile home with a kitchen and a single bathroom with hot water. There are dry camp sites nearby. There also is a good set of corrals if someone wanted to bring horses!

Lodging is $ 300 per hunter and the hunters that book first have the first right to the lodging and the decision as to if they want others in the lodging. Discounted Hunts & Vouchers Has an agreement with a well-known motel chain in town to provide their hunters. It is usually a $85 per night per person discounted down to only 1 room, 2 beds, and even 2 free Breakfasts only $30 per night Double Occupancy.
