This 5 day hunt is only $ 1995 to hunt 1 or all three animals during the 5 days. If you do fill the bear tag there is a $500 trophy fee on the bear.
YOU WILL BE HUNTING IN A MAJOR ELK AND DEER MIGRATION AREA. YOU WILL BE HUNTING BY FAMIOUS BIG GAME TROPHY AREAS NEAR Gunnison, Crested Butte, Maher, Crawford, Hotchkiss, Paonia, Bowie, Somerset, and Marble. You will be hunting in the pristine under hunted West Elk Wilderness area. With about two hundred miles of trails, following creeks and ridge tops, offer opportunities for prime trophy animal quality harvesting. This is the fifth largest Wilderness in Colorado. The trails provide excellent pathways for hunting and horse traffic. These animals get large because of the genes they carry and the old age they achieve in this huge 176,172 acres wilderness area. With elevations ranging from 7,500 to over 13,000 feet any season they are always available on this property in Colorado GMU 053.
This is set up for trophy hunter success under a Do It yourself format. The experienced guide will assist but not guide you into 176,000 acres of prime trophy wilderness. He will provide you with lodging, meals, assistance by map of the premium areas to hunt but will not go into the wilderness area with you as a guide. He has made horses available to you if you wish to have one. This truly is the hunt opportunity of a lifetime for the DIY that wants to tale a trophy Buck, Bull or Bear. It is not uncommon to see bear when you are hunting deer and elk in the earlier seasons. Once animals are shot and gut piles begin to appear the bears sightings get even more common. Every year bears are taken by hunters out of this very spot.
Cabin and Bunk house interior and exterior/ the cabin has the flush toilet, bunk house has a Outhouse
Preference Points are used to draw a license on this property in Colorado GMU 053 and Hunter Success.
Note: In Colorado for the license are allotted 65% for residents and 35% for non-residents.
If one category or the other does not have enough applications submitted to use up their percentage of the whole amount allotted the additional can be given to the other to consume the total. Any left over after that go into a “left over” pool for over the counter sale. Therefore the way this table is written for Non-Residents is what percent of the 35% of the total licenses were reserved for Non-residents had 100% of them drawn. All deer must be drawn but it doesn’t always require a preference point to draw.
The bear is a unique break in that you must draw a deer or elk for the season you want to bear hunt to be able to get a bear license.

The Ranch is located 9 miles from Crawford Colorado. The ranch is at the end of the road blocking access to that area is by others. This is a migration area so there is a deer & elk herd in the area year round and a migrating population passing through which keeps new animals coming through all year. This is prime deer and elk country as the pictures show.
That is what makes the hunting so good, lack of access and thousands of acres. Maps of the area are available in the sporting stores. You will receive one with your deposit that highlights the camp location and area that have been proven to provide game year after year. Also because of the lack of access there are deer, elk and bear in there that probably have never seen a human.
All photographs were taken at the cabin and hunting area around the cabin in the wilderness or the national forest, and down the road BLM land and easy access by hunters staying with us.
This property set you within a 50 foot walk into a registered Wilderness area with thousands of acres from the back side so access is limited to get into this area. It is foot or horseback only. Pressure from the other access pushes deer and elk to you. With 6x6 bulls and 5x5 mules over 180 B&C this is the place for the DIY to hunt that know what he is doing but just needs to have a place to do it.
If you want to use ATV’s and 4 wheel drive leave camp out the other direction and you are in thousands of acres of Gunnison National Forest, or 4 miles away is BLM land. Your cabin or camp will be in a Private 160 acre hayfield with water, electrical a cabin and a bunk house. If you have or rent horses there are corals to keep them in.
The cabin will sleep 6 and has a hot shower and heat, the bunk house has heat and you will have access to the cabin shower.
Depending on availability if they are not available than a motor home, camper, or camping trailer or even a tent is ok pricing will adjust accordingly.
Hunts are broken down into 5 day hunts during Archery, Muzzleloader and the 4 rifle seasons.
The area is a big producer of big bull elk with scrub oak and open parks with north slopes of dark timber it is perfect for elk. There is even a good bear population to be seen or hunted during the early season eating acorns and service and other berries. The archer, Muzzleloader and early rifle seasons have claimed many a bull from places like Little Elk Park and Little Sand Mountain just to name a few, which has the closest access on your front door. We are at the end of the road so for others to access they have a long ride or walk. Herd bulls pull the cows together into their harems here were they are seldom disturbed.
The mule deer rut is in November so big buck scoring over 180 B&C Points seem to be in the migrating and looking for love during the last two rifle seasons. The snows push them down from the high timber toward their wintering grounds.
With that said elk and deer don’t always do what they are suppose to so we have seen big archery deer shot and big late season rifle bull elk shot.
Up until the second or third rifle season a tent works fine but after that season winter begins to show its face on a regular basis. Then the cabin, bunk house or camper is a must.
You are Located on the South fork creek, surrounded by miles and miles of West Elk Wilderness Area public land, far enough back that you will seldom see another hunter. The wilderness area is limited to horse and foot access only. The ranch is in the scrub Oak area with aspens to tall timber all visible. You can ride up to timberline to take advantage of the large animal during the early seasons.
This property is at the end of the road, 9 miles east of the town of Crawford, Colorado.
Big Elk, Deer and Bear are common and Fishing is always available on the creek.
Horse handling facilities are on the ranch, horses can be leased from Sombrero Ranch or other horse Rental operations.
The elk and deer hunting Seasons begin in August for archery, and then continue through Muzzleloader and up until the first Rifle Elk season early October.
Then the 2nd, 3rd, season is a deer and elk season, followed in late November by a late elk season on this 8400-8600 foot in altitude ranch and hunting area.
Early season hunters can take advantage of the Brook Trout fishing in the streams and local lakes with a Colorado fishing license.
The Colorado game unit is GMU053.
Elk Archery is over the counter and unlimited.
Rifle Bull 2nd 3rd over the counter licenses are unlimited
