Hunt the wiley Wapiti (Elk) from your mountain Cabin each morning driving 4 wheelers or 4 wheel drive Pickup to the wilderness area or to particular locations on National Forest, private land or Wilderness designated area that your guide has pre-scouted and found elk. You can hunt 2 on 1 with your guide or 1 on 1 for a slight upgrade. You will be staying in a mountain cabin during a 6 night 7 day hunt. The guide has access to horses and snow mobiles if needed to get the elk you shot back to camp. The cabin is in GMU071 but you may also be hunting GMU711 or even GMU070 depending on the hunt. Motorized vehicles are restricted in the Wilderness area and there are some restricted areas in the national forest. Even though travel is hampered it has increased the density and the size of the elk and deer in the area.
Most of the area your outfitter has personally hunted has hunted for the past 20 years before and after they had been restricted to horse back and foot traffic only. This will allow you to elk hunt and deer hunt into areas of high game density that would have been a real challenge to retrieve the downed game.
This is entirely a fair chase hunt that is physically challenging and very rewarding when successful. You will be hunting in an area with altitudes between 7000 and 11000 feet, depending on the season and weather. Elk will migrate to the preferred conditions and we hold all of them.
The outfitter guarantee’s to work extremely hard to ensure the best chance for a successful elk hunt or deer hunt. Elevations start at 7000 feet up to 11000 feet depending on weather. We usually hunt the national forest and Wilderness property and are successful. This being a free ranging hunt and elk being elk they don’t always travel where they have in the past. If needed we have a plan B and are able to access private ground for an additional fee.
Good numbers of both Elk and deer in unit 71 and surrounding units. All Antlered deer hunts are by drawing only, and has been managed for good bucks. Each year there are nice bucks taken in unit 71 in the 20-28" class. Elk are plentiful, but mature 6x6 bulls the exception rather than the rule. Good numbers 4x4 and 5x5 bulls exist. A Good bull to cow ratio, and the either sex hunts offer a good success rate and meat for the game hunter. Any medical issues need to be disclosed. It takes a couple of days to acclimate and you can arrive early to facilitate that, and it is well worth it.
All hunts are guided to some degree as defined below. If you want to bring a camper or tent to have your own lodging prices are defined below.
All hunts are 6 night 7 day hunt or less depending on season dates

Colorado Buffalo Hunt
Buffalo hunt on private land are available in January, February to middle of March in Colorado. This is not a draw hunt, but private land and is a guaranteed buffalo hunt if someone desires to take a buffalo, and harvest some excellent meat quality red meat. I took one with my "original" 1884 Sharps 45/70 two years ago. Archery, muzzleloader, rifle are even a better matched to the strength and size of this monarch of the plains.
Buffalo Hunts range from $1,195.00 to $3,995.00 depending on the age and species of buffalo taken. This hunt can be done prior to your hunt so it can be processed while you are hunting and able to go home with you after the hunt.
Huge High Fence Bulls
I also have available 300 plus elk bull hunt in a high fence enclosure that are an option if you have a very big wall to fill. They are priced according to side.
