 Private Land Cow Elk Hunt

 These hunts occur on one of the largest ranches in Northeastern New Mexico, Vermejo Park Ranch, which is 600,000 acres of totally private land. This ranch holds one of the largest elk herds in the state of New Mexico, usually counting

around 13,000 animals during the winter surveys. The cost of this hunt includes guide, courtesy transportation during the hunt, and transportation of the elk to the meat processor. The hunter is responsible for their motel, meals, personal gear,

weapon, and license. We have run a 100% hunter success for the last nine years, harvesting over 500 elk in that time frame.

Harvested cows are transported to Raton to the meat processor for skinning and processing. It is the hunter’s responsibility to handle the arrangements and charges with the processor.

Public Land Hunts

 Carson National Forest Unit 51 & 52

Unit 51 is located directly below Unit 52 in North Central New Mexico and is approximately 380,000 acres (594 square miles). This unit allows the use of ATV vehicles on any designated road or for the retrieval of harvested game within the majority of the unit. We only use ATV’s to assist in the retrieval of a harvested animal. All of our hunting is done on foot in this unit. This unit offers the hunter easy access, an excellent elk population and limited hunting pressure. The unit offers almost a 100% opportunity to draw a license with the use of the outfitter number. In the past year, our guided rifle hunters had an 84% hunter success and a 100% hunter opportunity.

Unit 52 is located in North Central New Mexico, with Colorado as its northern border. This unit is approximately 300,000 acres in size and is a Roadless/wilderness area that prohibits off road vehicles and off road traffic of any type. The area has numerous open roads within the unit, often two to three miles apart, which allows the hunter access to areas to hunt by foot. This unit has an excellent elk population and the number of hunters is controlled, as opposed to most of Colorado’s public land units. The odds of drawing a license are excellent with the outfitter number. Bow hunts can be combined with a mule deer hunt and/or a bear hunt. The last rifle hunt last year was the first rifle hunt in three years that we did not have 100% success for our hunters.

These hunts include the use of the outfitter number for drawing a license, the appropriate number of guides, accommodations, meals, courtesy transportation during the hunt, retrieval of game and trophy preparation of the animal. The hunter is responsible for putting in for the license, with our help, their personal gear including bedroll, weapon, and transportation to and from camp.

 Sargent Wildlife Area

 This area is located near Chama, New Mexico. The Wildlife Area is approximately 20,000 acres in size and is managed for trophy class elk of 300 B&C or better. This hunt requires good physical condition and a positive hunting attitude. Individuals applying for this unit need to be able to ride horses and be able to walk up to six miles per day. To get to the hunting areas you will be riding for up to two hours each morning in the dark and possibly leading the horse out with your elk. Permits on this wildlife area are limited and no more than two nonresident hunters will be drawn for each hunt. The deadline to apply for this hunt is April 7,

 Lincoln National Forest Units 34, 36 & 37

 We offer bow, muzzleloader and rifle hunts in these units. These units are known for big bulls and excellent numbers of elk. The guides for these units are very knowledgeable of the units, are good bow hunters, and have the history of getting clients on big bulls. These are excellent units and because of this it is difficult to draw a tag. Last year these units produced several good bulls with one scoring over 350 B&C.

The cost of the hunt includes accommodations, meals, courtesy transportation during the hunt, retrieval of the harvested animal, and caping of the animal.

The hunter is responsible for arriving in camp, personal gear, weapon, license and

stamps, gratuities, and care for the animal after it arrives in camp. The deadline to

apply for this hunt is April 7,

This hunt occurs out of Durango, Colorado. This is a high fence hunt and you are guaranteed to kill a bull elk. The size of the elk range from 6x6 280 B&C to bulls over 400 B&C. It is your choice on the size of the bull that you want to hunt and harvest. The cost of these hunts is very reasonable and is great for the person that wants to insure taking home the bull elk of a lifetime. You may hunt with any weapon of your choice, bow, muzzleloader or rifle.

Cost of the hunt includes any license and paperwork, courtesy transportation during the hunt, trophy preparation of the animal, accommodations, and meals.

 Private Land Rifle Hunt

 This hunt occurs on private ranches near Raton, New Mexico. These ranches have the potential to produce 300 B&C class bulls for the hunters. The cost of the hunt includes meals, guide and courtesy transportation during the hunt, and trophy preparation of the animal. The hunter is responsible for their personal gear, weapon, and transportation to Raton, New Mexico, and license ($576.00 across the counter). Because we are always looking at additional ranches, acquiring new ranches, and negotiating different leases, the price of the hunts on new ranches may be different than advertised.

Rifle hunts begin in early October to take advantage of the rut and the bugling of the bulls. We monitor elk on the ranch and if there are no elk, your hunt will be moved or changed to the next year. You will be hunting where we know there are elk. We have always presented a hunter with opportunities to harvest bull elk.

 Self Guided or Drop Camp Elk Hunts

These hunts are only offered in Game Management Units 51 and 52 and are offered for all weapon types, rifle, muzzleloader and bow.

These hunts are designed for those hunters that are looking for a quality hunt, feel confident about hunting elk on their own, do not need a guide, and don’t want the hassle of having to bring and set up a camp. The self-guided hunts include:

•The use of the outfitter number for drawing a license

•Accommodations in a main tent camp

•Meals

•A person in camp with maps knowledgeable of the area to direct the hunter to good areas

•Retrieval of game

The hunter is responsible for:

•Applying for the license. The odds of drawing these licenses are excellent with the use of the outfitter number

•Their personal gear

•Weapon

•Transportation to and from camp and during the hunt

The two units that we hunt, Unit 51 and 52, can be described as follows:

 Guided Elk Hunt - Valle Vidal

The Valle Vidal unit of the Carson National Forest is one of the premier trophy elk areas in the United States. Created in 1980, it has been continually managed for quality elk hunting. The only way to hunt this once in a lifetime area is by drawing a license. Due to the demand for the licenses in this area the odds of drawing are small. The cost of the hunt includes accommodations, meals, appropriate number of guides, retrieval of game, and trophy preparation of the animal. The hunter is responsible for putting in for the license ($787.00) with our help, their personal gear, weapon, and transportation to and from camp. The deadline to apply for this hunt is April 7,

Mule Deer

Mule deer rifle hunts are on two different ranches in New Mexico.

 Private Land Mule Deer Hunt #1

 This hunt is located out of Vaughn, New Mexico on the Vicente Ranch. This ranch is 78,000 acres in size, a mixture of antelope and deer habitat. Elevation on the ranch is approximately 5500 feet. The area is a mixture of Pinon/Juniper, Ponderosa Pine, and high desert grasslands. Kiowa has commercially hunted and managed this ranch since 1991. A maximum of fourteen hunters will be allowed on the ranch this year. We have continually had excellent success on mature mule deer on this ranch. The cost of the hunt includes meals, courtesy transportation during the hunt, appropriate number of guides, and trophy preparation of the animal. The hunter is responsible for their license, personal gear, weapon, motel costs and transportation to and from the camp.

 Private Land Mule Deer Hunt #2 (Pre-Rut and Rut)

 Kiowa Hunting Service has enrolled our deer ranches in the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish’s Deer Enhancement Program. Because of this program, Kiowa has received a special set of permits that are able to be used outside of the normal deer hunting dates set by the state. We receive one set of permits that we can use during the month of November and another set that can be used any dates in December and January. With the peak of the mule deer rut normally occurring in mid to late December, we are able to offer a very rare opportunity to our hunters. These hunts are five days in length and limited in number of hunters for each hunt.

 Public Land Mule Deer Hunt

 Rifle deer hunts are offered on public land in Game Management unit 51. The unit is located in North Central New Mexico. The area holds some outstanding trophy animals. Though the population is not large, for the real trophy hunters this is a great hunt. This hunt can be combined with an elk rifle hunt for a combination hunt.

The bow deer hunts occur in September and may be combined with a bow elk hunt. The hunt occurs in both units 51 and units 52. The odds of drawing these permits are excellent.

 This hunt occurs on private land ranches in Northeastern New Mexico. This hunt is a spot and stalk type hunt, utilizing vehicles. We have been 100% on these hunts for numerous years.

Licenses are procured by use of the landowner authorization and bought across the counter. Kiowa furnishes meals, courtesy transportation during the hunt and appropriate number of guides, private land access, and trophy preparation of the animal. The hunter is responsible for transportation to and from camp, motel accommodations, personal gear, weapon and cost of the license.

 Oklahoma Whitetail Deer Hunt

 Kiowa Hunting Service is offering hunts for Whitetail deer in Oklahoma. These hunts will be conducted on low fence, free ranging, leases ranging from 1,400 to 3,000 acres in size. These areas have been exclusively managed for quality animals with low hunting pressure. This is a great hunt for the person looking for that 140+ B&C buck.

We offer both guided and self guided hunts on these properties. Most hunting is done from blinds and over feed sources. We will allow spot and stalk hunting if previously agreed to. Hunts include one Whitetail buck, one Hog and one Doe (during doe days with proper license).

Self Guided Hunts: include being shown the property, private land access and the use of the blinds and feeders located on the property.

Guided Hunts: include transportation to and from the airport, transportation to and from the motel to the hunt area, double room accommodations at the motel of our choice, use of the blinds and stands, and the noon day and evening meal.

Bear

Black Bear

We offer hunts in several locations in New Mexico.

 Black Bear Hunt

 The Bear Hunts occur on private land near Raton, New Mexico. These are spot and stalk hunts. New Mexico is famous for its numerous color phases of bears and will offer the hunter up to 50% opportunity on color phase bears. A pure black bear is more of a rarity in New Mexico than commonplace.

The habitat of these areas runs from Pinon/Juniper and Ponderosa Pine to Spruce and Timberline. This is rocky, mountainous terrain with the elevations running from 7500 feet to 9500 feet. The areas hold good populations of bears.

The cost of the hunt includes arrangements to purchase your hunting license, courtesy transportation during the hunt, use of a guide, and trophy preparation of the bear after harvest. The hunter is responsible for transportation to Raton, NM, motel accommodations, remaining meals, license, and personal gear.

The bear hunt can be combined with an antelope hunt which would occur prior to the bear hunt in August.

Quotas: New Mexico operates under a zone management system with quotas for total number of bears that can be harvested and the number of female bears that can be harvested. You should book early for these hunts because once the quota is reached, the season is closed.

Mountain Lion

 Mountain Lion Hunt

 The Mountain Lion hunts occur on over 600,000 acres of private land in the Raton, New Mexico area. The hunts will begin on December 1, 2010 and will continue until the state set quota is filled.

The habitat of these ranches runs from Pinon/Juniper and Ponderosa Pine to Spruce and Timberline. This is rocky, mountainous terrain with the elevations running from 7,500 feet to 9,500 feet. These ranches have high populations of lions. Since these ranches primarily focus on elk and deer the harvest of lions is strongly encouraged.

The cost of the hunt includes private land access, your hunting license, noon day meal, courtesy transportation during the hunt, use of guides, dogs, any equipment or horses to get you onto the lion, and trophy preparation of the lion after harvest.

The hunter is responsible for his/ her personal gear, weapon, motel

accommodations, additional meals, and transportation to Raton, New Mexico.

The lion hunt can be combined with a cow elk hunt while lion hunting. This cow hunt has been 100% successful for the last nine years. The cost of the combination hunt does not include the license for the cow elk or the processing.

Quotas: New Mexico operates under a zone management system with quotas for total number of mountain lions that can be harvested and the number of female mountain lions that can be harvested. You should book early for these hunts, as once the quota is reached the season is closed. In 2009 the season closed in zone C on December 21, 2009.

 

Mountain Lion Hunt Info

 Oryx (Gemsbok) White Sands Missile Range Hunt

 Kiowa Hunting Service offers hunts for free ranging Oryx (Gemsbok) on White Sands Missile Range. We are one of the few licensed Outfitters operating in this area.

The White Sands Missile Range hunts are public land hunts and the licenses are allocated by drawing. There are numerous hunts to apply for beginning in August and run through March. These hunts are all two day hunts and normally have over a 90% hunter success in most units. These hunts are once in a lifetime hunts.

 Oryx (Gemsbok) Hunt

 Kiowa Hunting Service offers hunts for free ranging Oryx (Gemsbok) on the Amenders Ranch. We are one of the few licensed Outfitters operating on this ranch.

The Amenders Ranch (358,643 acres) hunts are across the counter licenses and are conducted year round and for any five days that the hunter selects. The Oryx herd is strictly managed so there is a wounding rule that applies on the ranch.

Kiowa will furnish Albuquerque airport courtesy pickup if needed,

motel accommodations, meals, guide service and trophy preparation of the animal. The

hunter is responsible for the license and Habitat Management Access stamp and arriving in Albuquerque, New Mexico for airport pickup or meeting in a nearby town to the hunt.

Exotic Free Ranging Sheep

 Barbary Sheep (Aoudad) Hunt

 We will be hunting for free ranging Barbary sheep (Aoudad) in New Mexico. This is an excellent hunt for excellent animals. We take only four hunters per year on our areas.

Kiowa will furnish courtesy transportation during the hunt, drinks, snacks, and lunches during the hunt. This hunt is a park and hike type hunt and the vehicle is seldom seen again until dark. Therefore hunters should bring comfortable day packs to carry water, store clothing (light rain gear) and other personal items. This will be a 1x1 service unless hunters want to hunt together.

Hunters are responsible for travel to Roswell, New Mexico, motel accommodations, meals, personal gear, and licenses.

Public land licenses are unlimited but you must apply for a license by April 7,

Barbary Sheep Hunt Info:

 Merriam Turkey Hunt

 Our hunt for Merriam turkey occurs on private land in Quay and San Miguel Counties, New Mexico. The habitat of the ranch is creek bottoms and Pinon/Juniper terrain. The ranch holds a large population of turkey and the population is growing. We hunt in areas that have a two bearded bird limit. The cost of the hunt includes meals, appropriate number of guides, and courtesy transportation during the hunt, and cleaning of the birds. The hunter is responsible for their license, motel

accommodations, personal gear, weapon and transportation to and from the camp. We have only had two people in five years not harvest two birds. This hunt is limited to no more than two hunters per hunt.

Merriam Turkey Hunt Info

 Rio Grande Turkey Hunt

Our hunts for Rio Grande turkey occur southwest of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in Grady County, Oklahoma. The hunt is on numerous private landholdings with the largest landholding being 3000 acres. The habitat is creek bottoms, hardwoods, and fields. The area has an excellent population of birds. We hunt in areas that have a two bearded bird limit. Cost of the guided hunts includes meals, appropriate

number of guides, and courtesy transportation during the hunt, and cleaning of the birds. The hunter is responsible for their license, personal gear, and motel accommodations. Unguided hunts are trespass only with no amenities. This hunt continues to produce two birds per hunter since we started hunting these areas five years ago.

 Waterfowl Hunt

 Kiowa Hunting Service now offers private land waterfowl hunts normally within an hour drive of Oklahoma City, OK. We have access to thousands of acres of prime waterfowl habitat with dense populations of both geese and ducks, offering you a great hunting opportunity. We are capable of moving around the state to where the birds are. You are not just in a lodge, where everyone has hunted the same ponds day in and day out.

We have very competitive pricing and will custom design our hunts to suit your needs.

Hunter is responsible for arrival at the town nearest the hunting area, personal gear, weapon, ammunition, accommodations, meals, licenses and stamps.

 

Waterfowl Hunt Info

Dates:

Season dates are set in late August

Goose:

Early Hunt: Normally ten days in September

Regular Hunt: Early November to early December and mid December to mid February

Duck:

Late October to early December and mid December to late January

Cost of Hunt:

$200.00 a day, two person minimum, two day minimum

Bag Limit:

Set by USFWS and Oklahoma Division of Wildlife
