Great Southern Outdoors offers a bountiful sportsman’s paradise in its ninth season open to the public. There are six thousand acres of naturally beautiful land abundant with wildlife and full of southern heritage. This dream destination for any outdoorsman or woman consists of prime habitat for deer, turkey, quail and hogs not to mention our great fishing. Great Southern Outdoors is owned and operated by Rex Pritchett III. The history of this location is very extensive, Bughall Plantation has been owned by the Pritchett family since the 1880’s. The owners have been grooming the property for this opening season and all of the property has been in a wildlife management program to grow trophies for the past 16 years. The Plantation has three lodges. First Lodge is made of cypress wood and pine. Second Lodge - Bughall Lodge built in 1823 made of cypress. The inside has it's original tongue and groove. This lodge is overlooking the main plantation. Third Lodge - Hunter's Hide Out is the newest lodge made of cypress wood inside and out. This lodge has 6 individual rooms with private bathrooms in each. The lodge has a beautiful view of an open green field as you step outside your room. Activity Center - The center is 6000 sq. ft. and consist of a game room, restaurant and lounge area. It is built out of cypress wood with a great open window view to observe the wildlife in the open green fields at the back of the building. A great place to gather on the deck to watch ducks, geese and bass jumping. In the afternoon hear owls talking and see turkeys strutting in the hardwood bottoms. Whitetail deer hunting is available to meet every sportsmen’s desire. The plantation is home to 60 quality green fields and over 150 strategically located deer stands. We have shooting house stands to accommodate two hunters as well as several ladder stands. Climbing stands are also permitted for the adventurous deer hunter. The management program for the past 16 years has been focused on growing the trophy southern whitetail. Eastern turkeys thrive on the property. They can usually be found in several of our wheat fields or among our planted pines. We also have many mature trees in creek bottoms where the turkeys love to roost. There is nothing like a spring morning hunt when you can listen to multiple birds hammer gobbles at you from different directions, the experience is truly amazing. Great Southern Outdoors has a lot of great things to offer, but one of the most important is their quail staff. They are truly some of the greatest host around. Just being out on the field, watching them handle the dogs, and making sure you have an experience of a lifetime is what they do best! Wild hog hunting is another option you will certainly enjoy. It is available beginning in May and runs through June, a time when most hunters feel they have to put their bows and guns away until the next season begins. Since 1990 we have harvested over 400 wild hogs. Typically, wild hogs move from place to place, depending on the food source and the time of year. They may not win any awards for their smell, but our cooks can smoke some of the finest tasting pork you’ve ever had. Want to talk about fishing, we have three fully stocked beautiful lakes. One is 123 acres, another is 88 acres and the third one is just over 15 acres. The largemouth bass range from 2-12 pounds and can provide never ending action. Each lake is also home to bream, crappie and some of the best tasting catfish you’ll ever eat. All boats are ready to go!!! Great Southern Outdoors also offers dove shoots twice a year to show fellowship with other hunters. You’ll enjoy this time just to share your hunting experiences with others and of course talk about the one that got away. Our plantation is located approximately 25 miles southeast of Montgomery and only 6 miles northwest of Union Springs. Montgomery’s airport offers daily flights all over the country and Union Springs has a small private airport as well. Again, transportation is provided for all commercial and private airline arrivals and departures. In the event of an unforeseen accident or personal health crisis, we have quick access to hospitals in both Montgomery and Union Springs. In addition, all of our guides are trained and certified in CPR. Great Southern Outdoors is excited to present this location for outdoorsmen to enjoy. Our Staff will welcome you with open arms. Not only is it equipped to offer a sportsman’s dream hunt, but it is also a place where you can bring your family and friends to enjoy nature, serenity, and southern hospitality. You will most likely re-book before you ever leave, and you will always remember the time you shared in the great outdoors of Alabama.
